From the EK Seneschal

To the Populace of the Kingdom of the East,
We would like to address recent events about a sex offender discovered in the SCA which have been circulating on SCA social media for the last couple of days.
First, in regard to the sex offender, upon the discovery of his presence, the Society Seneschal and the Kingdom Seneschal of the East, working together, immediately expedited the expulsion of this person from the SCA on Monday, September 23, 2019. The Society Seneschal sent a certified mail notification of his expulsion the same day.
Second, substantial misinformation has circulated about the removal of a local officer within the East Kingdom.
This person left office after willingly disobeying a directive to not act until we had completed the sanction process, which includes populace notification.
Contact with the offender is the sole domain of the Kingdom Seneschal and/or the Society Seneschal as they have the sole responsibilities for the Sanction Process.
We acted upon that notice immediately and the offender was expelled. The person's Expulsion Notice is being published in the next edition of The Pikestaff, the official Kingdom Newsletter.
The officer was NOT removed because they reported the offender to the Society, Officers, and the populace.
When an officer bypasses the rules of our sanction process by willfully ignoring directives, the process may be compromised while Kingdom and Corporate officers are attempting to manage the sanction process. Although as the result of SCA laws and policies, we were not permitted to discuss the steps being taken, the sanction was issued by the Society Seneschal, the local seneschals were notified, those in charge of upcoming events and activities were advised, and the MSR post and relevant public links concerning the offender were being shared by private individuals.
Third, please understand that removal was not done lightly nor were the actions which removed the officer in question light in the potential to disrupt the ongoing sanction investigation and process.
All Kingdom and Society officers have a duty to follow established procedures. No one may deviate from our processes without approval if we are to properly manage the sanction process.
Removal was not based upon the public notification of the offender is the SCA. It was the deliberate action taken when told to hold communication that was the basis of removal.
